Kettlebell Training with Kru Shankar at Elite Fight Club
At Elite Fight Club, the work starts before we put on the gloves. We are incorporating kettlebell workouts into our classes, with Kru Shankar “The General” bringing his experience to the floor. It is another opportunity for our students to work on how they move and approach their training with purpose.
These clips give you a look inside the gym as our students work through kettlebell movements together. There is effort, concentration and coaching throughout. That is what I want to see in our classes: people putting in the work while taking the time to learn.
10 years of teaching kettlebells
Kru Shankar brings 10 years of experience teaching kettlebells. That experience matters when you have a room full of students with different levels of strength, coordination and familiarity with the movements.
Watch him move through the class. He is paying attention to the students in front of him, watching their repetitions and giving individual guidance. Those moments are an important part of coaching. A demonstration gets the class started, and the attention that follows helps students understand what they are practising.

Making the warmup part of the lesson
Bringing kettlebells into the warmup gives us another way to get students moving and focused before the technical work begins. The aim is to prepare for the session ahead while giving each movement the attention it deserves.
In Muay Thai, we spend a lot of time talking about posture, balance, coordination and control. I want that same attention carried into the conditioning we do. Students should understand the movement, listen to the coaching and work at a level they can manage.
The videos show different parts of that process, including swings and movements around the head. They also show the class working together while Kru Shankar keeps an eye on the details. Learning to handle a kettlebell takes practice, just like learning a new combination on the pads.
Technique comes first
My expectation is simple: take pride in doing the movement well. Start with a weight you can control, ask questions and use the guidance your coach gives you. There is always something to improve, whether it is your first session with a kettlebell or something you have done for years.

More experience on the training floor
I appreciate what Kru Shankar brings to Elite. Having someone with 10 years of kettlebell teaching experience involved in this part of our classes gives our students another experienced coach to learn from.
It is good to see the team getting involved, listening and making an effort with something that adds variety to their training. We will keep building on that approach: purposeful work, clear instruction and a room where people support each other.
Thank you to Kru Shankar for sharing his knowledge, and to everyone who comes in ready to learn.
